Cutting the slot for a CBN insert to be brazed in to a solid carbide bar. D bit grinder works very well for this with the 1mm wide resin bond diamond cut off disc. At the end I was holding the insert snug in the slot with a piece of bamboo while cutting off the excess insert length. It really pays to have the insert constrained fairly well while silver soldering. Grinding a slot like this establishes top of tool on center and constrains the insert in two degrees of freedom. Doing a slot like this instead of just a step leaves that bottom lip wrapping around the tool and gives a much stronger attachment of the insert. Yes I will show soldering next.
