Description in audio. Making a ductile iron lap with an angled slit to allow lapping the diameter of a reamer. This style of lap allows very nice control of the lapping drag with just finger pressure. 15 micron diamond slurry is a good all-around size and works on carbide and high speed steel reamers. Slight back taper is accomplished by just spending a little more time lapping toward the back. Make sure you run in reverse for right hand tools so it does not try to cut the lap. It's easy to control size to tenths with this method. Be very careful to clean the reamer very well while you're checking size or you'll chew up your micrometer faces. With this method you can set up a test piece of material you intend to ream with the lube you intend to use and pre ream hole size. Then trial cut to see what size the reamer cuts then keep lapping to get the size you want.
