[00:00.000 --> 00:04.260] I'm grinding a spindle in here, and I'm grinding just the face of the mounting surface.
[00:04.720 --> 00:09.020] And this is a better example to show what I was talking about, about measuring where
[00:09.020 --> 00:13.340] the actual cutting took place, and then measuring 180 degrees off from that.
[00:14.440 --> 00:19.100] This is the TIR at 1 millionth per division on the upper scale there.
[00:20.060 --> 00:21.700] You see I'm on 1 millionth per division there.
[00:22.160 --> 00:26.520] And it's drifting because of thermal, but the actual per-revolution, I'm zeroing

[00:27.180 --> 00:32.460] The per-revolution is probably below a good clean 2 millionths.
[00:33.980 --> 00:38.900] Nothing has changed except I moved my indicator 180 degrees from where the cutting action

[00:54.600 --> 00:55.220] the other side.
[00:55.700 --> 01:02.060] And that is an actual indication of a coning error of the spindle, meaning the spindle
[01:02.060 --> 01:08.580] is actually tilting through a repetitive motion, such that where I ground, reads basically
[01:08.580 --> 01:13.480] zero, 2 millionths, but 180 degrees off, you're seeing more of the actual errors.
[01:14.080 --> 01:17.520] So very important because you could say, oh, this thing runs within 2 millionths,
[01:17.640 --> 01:19.060] when no, it doesn't.
[01:19.080 --> 01:21.220] It's actually off when you check other areas.

A better example of the need to measure 180° off of where the grinding takes place.
